jamuary 14, 2025

A few years ago I wrote an album of library music for a library that was all about simplicity and quiet. I pitched an album of pleasant, ambient stuff where central synth and piano melodies repeat for a few minutes as a garden of strings and pads grows around it.

Today’s piece reminds me of some of the songs on that album, accidentally:

TDLPA · Stair (Jan 14 2025)

I had to put this together very quickly, as I lost a lot of time at work today. I set up an AUM instance that looked like a lot of the other AUM instances I’ve set up this month — Decent Sampler (featuring the Panasonic Do-Re-Mi, which I just adore), Fugue Machine, etc. — but set this one in a (gasp) major key. I don’t write in major key much, but I did for that ambient album and I did today. It shifted my perspective and the choices I made, and I came up with something more melodic, friendly, and unencumbered by sound and noise than normal.

Will this song, too, soundtrack a German TV show about people living out of their campers?*

*No
